As many of you know I have traveled to California on many occasions to dive in San Diego and off
Catalina Island. I recently read an article in a dive magazine about the Channel Islands and started
to research the dive operators in the area. CAL BOAT DIVING located in Ventura Harbor just north
of the communities of Camarillo and Oxnard, Calif provided an all day trip, 4 dives and meals for
$110.00, who could pass up such an incredible offer!
I arrived at the dive boat the night before after flying in from the east coast. Another perk of Cal
Boat Diving, you can sleep on the boat the night before your trip for FREE! That's right FREE!. I
load my gear went to a nearby Mexican Restaurant for some nachos and a couple beers with my
newly acquired Dive Buddy Jeff, and then settled into my bunk. When I woke up the next morning I
was on the boat and ready to go!
The boat and crew were awesome, and the diving was great. It was a very windy weekend and the
seas were very rough, but our able Captain the our boat "The Spectre" handled it all in stride and
made the best of a day that other dive operators many have ruined.
