NoVA - Ventures
Northern Virginia's Premier Dive Club
The newest dive club in northern Virginia, NoVa-Ventures was established in December 2005, by John
Shanks of Dale City, Virginia. John was born and raised on the sunny beaches of Southern California,
snorkeling, surfing and enjoying the ocean as any California kid would in the 70's. His first experience
with SCUBA was at La Jolla Cove, just north of San Diego. John joined the USAF and continued to dive at his
first assignment ; Hickam AFB, Hawaii, and then did some lake and river dives while stationed at Mtn Home
Idaho. Work, Marriage, Children and life in general got in the way of diving and John took a break from the
early 80's until 2005.
The kids are in college, life is good, and John is diving again! So, being new to Northern Virginia John
decided a good way to meet people and find quality dive buddies would be with a dive club. Alas, not too many
dive clubs in the area, and certainly none way down south here in the Dale City/Woodbridge area.
So, here it is: NoVa- Ventures, Northern Virginia's Premier Dive Club. The concept is simple, a club that is
fun, friendly and has a purpose. John has been diving with Sea-Ventures Dive Ship in Fairfax, Va, and one of
the great things about Sea-Ventures is the people. The shop does not have a club, but if you stop by often
enough, it is a club like atmosphere, good quality people and exceptional divers.
FUN: There is nothing more fun than getting wet! NoVa-Ventures strives to provide an avenue to get wet
and have fun, while adding to your diving experience. And when we can't dive, we can get together and have
fun... talking about diving.
FRIENDLY: Why do we call each other dive buddies? Diving is one of the most friendliest sports I know of.
You can meet someone and 20 minutes later they can be your buddy. Come on out and make new friends with
NoVa-Ventures.
PURPOSE: To promote safe diving and enhance your diving experience. NoVA-Ventures is also committed
to protecting the earth and especially our oceans. Our goal is to save the natural resources for generations
of divers to come.
