SSI Open Water Diver - Weekend Format
Our SSI Open Water Certification Program consists of two parts:
1) Pool and Classroom Sessions are held over a single weekend. The time is divided equally between
the classroom and the pool. You will learn all the skills required to dive safely, gain confidence, and
become comfortable with the use of SCUBA equipment.
You will finish at approximately 6:00 PM each day. Due to the rapid pace of the course ALL
participants must complete course material before the Class Session Day (Chapters 1-3 on Saturday,
Chapters 4 - 6 on Sunday).
2) Five Open Water Dives scheduled at a later date will allow you to demonstrate your skills, gain
valuable experience and become certified.
Since we do our certification dives at the Millbrook Quarry in Haymarket, VA, we can not do
certification dives during the winter months, as the quarry is closed for the season and the water to just
way too warm! All certification dives are done in the spring and summer months, starting in April. You
can complete your open water academic instruction and pool sessions during the winter and then certify
in the Spring!

You may also choose to certify via referral. If you are headed to Florida, the Caribbean or some other
warm, sunny destination. You can schedule your certification dives as part of your vacation! Check
with your instructor on how to do this.
